Short trip and refusal

A Schengen visa confirms the purpose of a short trip, but it does not replace a residence permit. A good dossier does not invent a "legend" — it documents a truthful itinerary.

Read in order

The consulate assesses the purpose, the conditions of the trip, the money and the intention to return. Neither an intermediary nor "connections" can honestly guarantee a visa; a promise of a guarantee is itself a reason to stop.

When the routemakes sense

  • The purpose is tourism, a visit, a business trip or another short stay.
  • The itinerary is realistic and matches the country of application.
  • There are funds, accommodation, transport and medical insurance.
  • Ties to the country of residence confirm the return.
  • Previous visas and refusals are disclosed consistently.
01

The consulate must see a real trip

The application is filed to the country of the sole or main purpose of the trip. If the purposes are equal, duration is looked at, and then the first country of entry. Mechanically filing "wherever it's easier" can wreck the logic of the itinerary.

The passport, the form, the bookings, the insurance, the finances and the employment tell one story. A mismatch of dates or an impossible budget is more noticeable than the absence of a decorative cover letter.

02

A refusal is first read, then corrected

The decision states the legal and factual grounds as well as the appeal deadlines. Sometimes a new application with changed circumstances is wiser, sometimes an administrative appeal. The choice depends on the reason, the evidence and the timing.

Concealing a past refusal or changing the form's data without explanation is not allowed. The new dossier must show exactly what has become different.

03

A visa does not guarantee entry

At the external border you may be asked for a valid passport, the visa, proof of purpose, accommodation, a return itinerary and sufficient funds. That is why the trip documents are kept even after the passport is received.

For relocation you choose a national visa or residence on a suitable basis. A short visa must not be turned into a promise of permanent status.

A working set ofdocuments

Not a universal list but a framework. The exact set depends on your nationality, the place of filing, your family and the facts of your case.

  1. 01

passport that meets the rules on validity term and issue date

  2. 02

the form and a current photograph

  3. 03

medical insurance for the whole trip

  4. 04

    itinerary, accommodation and transport

  5. 05

    financial documents

  6. 06

proof of employment or another tie to the country of residence

  7. 07

documents on the purpose of the visit

  8. 08

The order of work

Each next step begins only after the previous one has been verified.

  1. 01

    Purpose

We determine the real purpose, the countries, the dates and the competent consulate.

  2. 02

    Evidence

We assemble the itinerary, money, insurance, employment and grounds for return.

  3. 03

    Cross-check

We check every date, amount, name and form answer for contradictions.

  4. 04

    Filing

We go through the appointment and biometrics under the rules of the specific visa centre.

  5. 05

    Decision

We check the visa or analyse the written refusal before the next step.

Where a case breaks

01

Buying a "guarantee"

The decision is made by the consulate. A private person cannot lawfully sell guaranteed approval.

02

The budget does not add up

The account balance, the trip cost and regular income must be compatible.

03

The new form argues with the old one

Changes in work, family or itinerary are explained, not masked.

Short answers

If the answer changes with a single fact, that is not a detail — it is a reason to review the situation separately.

01Can you apply to any Schengen country?

No. The competent consulate is determined by the main purpose and duration of the trip, and in case of equality by the first country of entry.

02Does a visa give the right to spend 90 days?

The 90/180 rule sets a general maximum for short stays, but a specific visa may have a shorter validity or number of days.

03After a refusal should you change the country of application?

Not automatically. First the ground for refusal and the real new trip are analysed. An artificial change of country may add contradictions.

04Do old fingerprints always exempt you from biometrics?

Biometrics may be reused within the provided-for period, but the consulate has the right to summon the applicant. The rule is checked as of the appointment date.
